Make Money with Amazon Associates for Blogger

Amazon.com has recently announced Amazon Associates for Blogger, a direct integration between Amazon Associates and Blogger.

With the new tool, Bloggers can easily add links and images of products to their Blogger blog posts in 2 easy steps:

Bloggers highlight relevant keyword in post and a product finder will recommend products that matches closely to the keyword.
Bloggers can then insert a link or image to that product which includes their Associates ID (i.e. affiliate ID), enabling them to earn up to 15% in referral fees from Amazon.

There is also a new set of integrated Amazon Sidebar gadgets such as:

Amazon DRM-free music store
Amazon Deals
Amazon Search box

I’ve experimented with the new integrated tool and gadgets on my Blogger account and I find them really easy to use.

ClickBank Open Its Doors to Malaysia!

This must be THE Internet marketing news this year for Malaysians! Yes, ClickBank has open its doors to Malaysia! To be exact, ClickBank can now send affiliate/publisher check (or cheque – depends where you come from) payments to a Malaysian address.

Prior to this, Malaysian ClickBank members including yours truly had to use a forwarding address of a ClickBank-recognized country (e.g. Singapore) as the payee address.

Change of Payee Address

After reading Gobala’s blog post on this good news, like Gobala, I requested for a change in the payee address in ClickBank. Hopefully, the request will be honored; apparently, the outcome will be known within 3 days.

New Accounts

If you’re signing up for a new ClickBank account, you should now see "Malaysia" in the drop-down list. Dream come true, isn’t it?

Is this the New ClickBank?

Over the recent months, ClickBank has started a blog (better late than never!), enhanced their communications options, and improved their account control panel features.

ClickBank’s CEO Bob King’s recent blog post entitled Thoughts on Going Global, seems to indicate that they’re prepared to get out of their comfort zone.

Incidentally, Fred Chan posted a sharp comment responding to the blog post –questioning ClickBank’s restrictions on Malaysia. There were some interesting responses by Bob King. I suggest reading Fred’s blog post for more juicy details. Hmmm…I wonder if Fred’s comments had triggered or rather, expedited ClickBank’s change of policies…

Whatever it is, affiliate marketers in Malaysia have now a good reason to cheer about. Woot!

New Google Apps Referrals

Two weeks ago, Google announced the Google Apps referrals program. Google Apps provides customized email addresses (powered by Gmail), Google Calendar, Google Talk, Docs & Spreadsheets and Page Creator. It’s free and it’s hosted by Google. [UPDATE: Google has retired its referrals program in August 2008.]

Google Apps publishers earn $5 per referral after the following conditions are met:

Referred visitor signs up for Google Apps with a domain that has not already been signed up for the service;
That person’s domain must then have one or more Google Apps email accounts in use for four consecutive weeks.

However, the referral program is currently available to US publishers only.

Amazon Context Links: Yet Another Way of Monetizing a Site

For those of you who are looking for more ways of monetizing your site, there’s exciting news. Amazon has launched the Context Links Beta program.

Context Links automatically add links on-the-fly based on your page content (much like Kontera and Intellitext). When a user follows the link and purchases a product, you’ll earn referral fees. So, it’s a CPA (Cost Per Action) program. All you need to do to get it running is to embed a piece of code (Javascript) in your page and let the code do the work for you.

There are numerous customization options for Context Links. For example, you can control the number of links to appear on each page, Amazon product categories to be linked, matching of exact product names only, the style of preview windows when hovering over links, and even style of the link underlines (e.g. single, double, dashed).

At the moment, I don’t have an idea of how well Context Links does its phrase-matching but I like the fact that you can actually limit matching to only the exact product names. That way, you’ll limit auto-creation of unnecessary links and hopefully, that translates to better conversion rate.

Earn Referral Fees for Amazon Unbox

There’s a new development in the Amazon Associates program. Now users of the program can earn referral fees on Amazon Unbox Video Downloads.

If you haven’t heard, Amazon Unbox allows site visitors to purchase or rent their favorite movies and TV shows to download and watch on their PC â€“ all in DVD quality.

Associates are eligible to earn 10%, a full 1.5% above the highest earnings tier, on all Unbox referrals (up to $1.50 per item). There is no limit to the number of items on which referral fees are earned.

Amazon Associates program has given me sporadic success so far but it’s nice to know there’s another referral option.

Monthly Amazon Associates Payments Starting 2007

I just got news that Amazon Associates payment will be monthly instead of quarterly, beginning January 1, 2007.

Affiliates will be paid 60 days after end of each month.

For example, referral fees earned in January will be paid at the end of March, and payment of referral fees earned in February will be paid at the end of April.

It’s ironic that the Amazon Associates program has been one of the oldest affiliate programs around and yet it’s only in 2007 that Amazon Associates payment cycle has been reduced to a more typical monthly cycle.

Well, better late than never.

Tracking Amazon.com Affiliate Performance for Multiple Sites

If you run Amazon.com affiliate links on multiple sites, some of you are probably using a single Associates ID across your sites. This only allows you to see a combined view of your affiliate activity in the reports.

To track the performance of each site, you’ll need a unique Tracking ID per site. There’s no need to create multiple Associate accounts. Multiple Tracking IDs can be added from within your single Associate account.

To create a new Tracking ID, log on to your Amazon.com Associates Central account, go to “Your Account“, click on “Manage your Tracking ID“, and add your tracking ID there. (Previously the add Tracking ID request process was less up-front; I remember having to send an add Tracking ID e-mail request to Customer Service.)

At time of writing, there is a limit of 100 tracking IDs per Associate account. I guess 100 should be sufficient for most people.

MySpace Bans Affiliate Marketing

MySpace is coming down hard on members exploiting it for commercial purposes as highlighted in Allan Gardyne’s latest issue of his newsletter.

So, if you’re considering making money blogging on MySpace, you better now ditch that idea or rather, be very subtle about your marketing endeavor.

This will be bad news for affiliate marketers who had been successful at cashing in on the use of a huge social networking club like MySpace as a marketing platform.

It will also be bad news to the publishers and affiliates of products dealing with marketing on MySpace; these products are rendered irrelevant in an instant.

Here’s an excerpt of MySpace terms and conditions updated on October 25:

Non-commercial Use by Members.

The MySpace Services are for the personal use of Members only and may not be used in connection with any commercial endeavors except those that are specifically endorsed or approved by MySpace.com. Illegal and/or unauthorized use of the MySpace Services, including collecting usernames and/or email addresses of Members by electronic or other means for the purpose of sending unsolicited email or unauthorized framing of or linking to the MySpace Website is prohibited. Commercial advertisements, affiliate links, and other forms of solicitation may be removed from Member profiles without notice and may result in termination of Membership privileges. Appropriate legal action will be taken for any illegal or unauthorized use of the MySpace Services.

Firefox 2.0 Not Supported by Google AdSense Referrals?

I came across Barry Schwartz’s post saying that the recently released Firefox 2.0 is currently not supported by Google AdSense Firefox Referrals program.

Google AdSense program pays $1 per download of Firefox plus Google Toolbar from a referral. At this time, the referrals program only covers Firefox 1.5. [Update: Google has retired its referrals program in August 2008.]

Here’s a reply presumably from AdSense Support to a DigitalPoint Forums member’s query:

Thanks for writing in about the Firefox plus Google Toolbar referral button. We currently offer Firefox 1.5 in our referral download. We can’t yet say if or when we will offer Firefox 2.0, but I’m happy to pass along your comments to our engineering and product teams.

I noticed some web publishers are now contemplating whether to display the download Firefox/Google Toolbar button since it does not lead the users to download the latest Firefox release.
